The Instrument

The clarsach is a traditional Scottish lever harp. Neil plays a 34 string Glenelle, hand built by Starfish Designs in Fort William. The main body of the instrument is cherry with Bavarian spruce sound board and Delacour levers. The clarsach is string to a reasonably high tension with gut upper and metal lower strings.

Neil is also currently using a 19 string wire strung Kilcoy clarsach manufactured by Ardival Harps in Strathpeffer.
